Panaji: Five Bangladeshi nationals involved in two different alleged dacoities at Dona Paula and Mapusa have been remanded in 11 days’ police custody.The crime branch team of Goa police on Thursday brought the accused to Goa from Delhi, where they were arrested by Delhi police crime branch.“The court of the judicial magistrate first class (JMFC), Merces, remanded all five Bangladeshi dacoits i 11 days police custody for their custodial interrogation by the Goa police crime branch,” said police inspector Dattaguru Sawant.The five arrested people were identified as Noor Islam aka Nadim Khan, Md Saiful Islam, Sattar Khan, Zakir Hauladar, and Md Sumon Hauladar, all residents of Bangladesh.In April 2025, an elderly couple from the Dempo family endured a traumatic experience when three robbers armed with daggers broke into their residence at Dona Paula. The trio tied 77-year-old Jaiprakash Dempo and his 71-year-old wife, Padmini, to their bed while carrying out the robbery between 12 am and 4 am.Nearly six months after the alleged dacoity took place at the Dempo residence, police arrested a person who was involved in identifying the house.A few months later in Oct, at least six armed, burqa-clad individuals stole approximately Rs 35 lakh in cash and valuables and held Dr Mahendra Ghanekar hostage at Ganeshpuri, Mapusa, following a planned escape route.The gang, entered the house with a large knife and iron rods. The doctor, his wife, his mother and another relative — were tied using bedsheets and a sari and then gagged using pillow covers.The police arrested two people in connection with the alleged dacoity.
