Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES) on Tuesday began fire safety inspections across tuition classes, coaching institutes, and computer education centres in the city. Fire teams also checked units not legally mandated to acquire a fire safety certificate.During the checking in the North-West Zone, officials inspected fire extinguishers, emergency exits, escape routes, and electrical safety. The fire dept served notices to 17 establishments after finding lapses in safety there. These included JK Shah Coaching Institute (Navrangpura), Rajshree Study Centre (Naranpura), Allen Career Institute, Aakash Educational Services, Unacademy (Thaltej), Amor Design Institute (Vastrapur), and Yash Classes (Mansi Crossroads).Fire authorities also sealed Navkar Digital Institute as its fire safety certificate expired. AFES urged all educational institutes to ensure functional fire safety systems for the protection of students and staff.
