Bengaluru: A fire gutted a flat on the eighth floor of an apartment complex at Uttarahalli Wednesday, with officials suspecting an electrical short circuit as the cause. The fire department received a call at 11.52 am, and four fire tenders from Hulimavu, Dairy Circle and Banashankari stations rushed to the spot and brought the flames under control. Officials said the fire was confined to the single 3BHK flat in D block of Brigade 7 Gardens. The extent of the loss is yet to be assessed.A resident of Brigade 7 Gardens, who witnessed the incident, questioned the response. According to the resident, the fire was initially confined to a single room. One or two firefighters, along with a group of residents, tried to douse it from the ground floor, but the water was not reaching the flames. “It was pretty obvious that the water wasn’t reaching the fire, but they kept trying,” the resident said.By the time the approach was abandoned, the fire had spread to other parts of the flat, and a small explosion in an adjacent room triggered another fire, the resident said. A turntable ladder arrived only towards the end, when little could be saved, the resident claimed.
