FIR lodged in Deoria over ₹10L cryptocurrency fraud

Lucknow: Acting on a court’s direction, Deoria police have registered an FIR against a man accused of duping a youth of ₹10 lakh by promising massive returns through cryptocurrency investments and later threatening to kill him.Complainant Piyush Kumar Singh of Sirjam Dei said he met Ayush Singh of Pipramadan Gopal in Deoria city on Dec 1, 2025. During the meeting, Ayush allegedly claimed that he facilitated cryptocurrency investments and could help investors multiply their money nearly fivefold within five years.To gain his confidence, Ayush allegedly showed photographs of several purported investors, including doctors and businessmen, and cited their success in cryptocurrency trading. Piyush said the accused remained in touch and again contacted him through WhatsApp on April 14, 2026, persuading him to invest.Believing the assurances, Piyush allegedly borrowed ₹5 lakh twice from his father and handed over a total of ₹10 lakh to Ayush. The accused allegedly told him that the amount would grow to around ₹50 lakh within five years.The complainant further alleged that Ayush collected photocopies of his Aadhaar card, PAN card and bank passbook during the transaction. However, when Piyush later became suspicious and demanded his money back, the accused allegedly refused and threatened him with dire consequences, including murder.
