Lucknow: A day after a 26-year-old police constable was found hanging inside his barrack at Gomti Nagar police station, an FIR has been lodged against a woman constable posted at the same police station for allegedly abetting his suicide.Sources said the deceased, Akash Yadav, a 2019-batch constable from Bijnor, was allegedly being pressured by the woman constable to marry her.Akash was found hanging from a ceiling fan with a bedsheet at around 5.45 pm on Sunday. He had been posted at Gomti Nagar police station for nearly two years and was staying in the men’s barrack on the top floor of the station premises.According to police, a colleague, constable Satish Kharwar, noticed that the barrack door was locked from inside and received no response despite repeated knocks. He looked through a window and found Akash hanging. Police personnel were alerted, and the constable was taken to Lohia Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.Police said the woman constable named in the case was a year junior to Akash in service.The FIR was registered following a complaint by the deceased’s family.Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the relationship between the two and their interactions before Akash’s death. Police are analysing call detail records and other digital evidence to establish the sequence of communication between them.Statements of people close to both constables are also being recorded. Investigators are trying to determine whether any dispute, pressure, or other circumstances preceded Akash’s death and whether the accused constable’s actions had any connection to the incident.
