Family seeks repatriation of Raj man’s body from Canada

Kota: The family of a 32-year-old man from Chittorgarh district who drowned in Canada has sought urgent govt intervention after his body was not brought back to India even 10 days after his death.Raghav Soni alias Raghvendra Singh Kshatriya, a resident of Begu, reportedly drowned on April 11 in Heart Lake in Brampton, near Toronto, after a boating accident. He had been working with an insurance company in Canada for the past six years, while his family remained in Rajasthan.Bundi-based Congress leader and former Rajasthan State Seed Corporation director Charmesh Sharma submitted an online petition to President Droupadi Murmu Tuesday, urging immediate steps to repatriate the body. He also wrote to external affairs minister S Jaishankar and foreign secretary Vikram Misri, seeking coordination with Canadian authorities.Sharma said the family had been assured multiple times that the body would be sent to India, but it has yet to arrive. He also approached the National Human Rights Commission, saying a dignified last rite is a fundamental right. In his petition, Sharma cited international norms on timely repatriation of mortal remains and urged the Centre to take up the matter with Canada to speed up the process. tnn
