New Delhi: Family members and friends of a 24-year-old youth who was killed in a suspected hit-and-run staged a protest outside Jahangirpuri police station Sunday, demanding that police identify the vehicle and driver involved in the accident. The family alleged that 28 days after the incident, police were yet to provide them with answers about the investigation.The deceased, Jatin Khanna, was returning to his home in Uttam Nagar around 4 am on Aug 2 after attending a Mata Ki Chowki in Burari when an unidentified vehicle allegedly hit him on Ring Road and fled. He was rushed to a hospital but succumbed . An FIR was registered.During the protest, supporters questioned the police investigation, particularly the availability of CCTV footage from the accident site. “We are getting no proper response from their end. Our brother had an accident on the 2nd, and today is the 30th. It has been 28 days, yet they know nothing. They don’t know who did it or who hit him,” Jatin’s brother said.Police, however, said CCTV cameras around the area had been checked but there was no camera at the exact accident spot. ACP Yogendra Khokhar said, “There was no camera near the accident spot. Cameras before and after the location were checked according to the time. Local intelligence was also gathered,” Khokhar said. He added that rain and the early-morning timing made it difficult to locate eyewitnesses.Khokhar added that after allegations of the investigation not progressing by the family, the investigating officer was changed.The ACP said the family was heard for around two-and-a-half hours and their concerns were addressed.
