Family out to visit Ganapati mandals ends up in tragedy; elder brother killed in crash

Pune: A motorcycle carrying four people out to visit Ganapati mandals in the city was hit by a truck near Pune RTO, killing one. Three others, including a 5-year-old child, sustained severe injuries.The accident occurred around 4 am, when the family was driving towards Hadapsar. Bund Garden police identified the deceased as Gulab Gavit (34) of Vaiduwadi, Hadapsar. His younger brother, Subhash Gavit (32), filed a complaint. Subhash, his wife Anita (28), and son Yash (5), all from Nashik, sustained severe injuries.Sub-inspector Ganesh Wankhade of Bund Garden police said, “The truck driver had abandoned the vehicle at the spot. We later took him into custody.”Wankhade said that the complainant and his family had come to Pune from Nashik to visit Ganesha mandals during the festival. “They stayed at his brother’s house in Hadapsar. On Wednesday night, they visited mandals in the city and were returning to Hadapsar on the deceased’s motorcycle in the early hours of Thursday.”Wankhade added, “Around 4 am, when they reached RTO, a truck, in an attempt to overtake, hit their motorcycle. All of them fell off the motorcycle. The complainant’s brother died due to severe injuries. The complainant, his wife and son are undergoing treatment in a hospital.”
