Ahmedabad: The city crime branch arrested a man allegedly posing as a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and using a forged govt identity card to dupe people with promises of airport jobs, discounted iPhones and goods from Army canteens.The accused, identified as Azma Kambhoz, around 40 years old and a resident of Malerkotla in Punjab, was detained on Saturday from behind Sardarbaug near the entrance to Palika Bazar in the Lal Darwaza area.A case was registered against him at Karanj police station.During interrogation, Kambhoz allegedly admitted to collecting money from several people on the pretext of arranging walnuts and kerosene from Kashmir, discounted products from Army canteens and iPhones at lower prices. According to the crime branch, he failed to deliver some of the promised goods and used the money for personal expenses.Investigators said the accused used the forged CISF identity card to claim he worked at an airport and allegedly collected money by promising jobs there. He also allegedly offered to arrange iPhones from Dubai at discounted rates and used similar claims to obtain money from people in Ahmedabad and other places.Police said he received payments both in cash and through online bank transfers. They are examining transactions linked to bank accounts belonging to other individuals, as well as travel agencies and petrol pumps that were allegedly used to receive the funds. The possible involvement of others is also being investigated.The crime branch further found that Kambhoz was wanted in a cheating and theft case registered by Kashmir police in 2022 and was reportedly absconding in the matter.Police have seized the forged CISF identity card along with an Aadhaar card and a PAN card from his possession.
