‘Fake CBI officers’ try raiding Rohini bizman; cops probe complaint

New Delhi: Delhi Police is probing a complaint filed by a businessman alleging that a group of eight to 10 people posing as CBI officers attempted to recently conduct a fake raid at his residence in Rohini.Police, though, have detected some discrepancies in the version of the complainant. They have registered a case and are analysing CCTV footage to get to the root of the matter.Resembling a ‘Special 26’-style fake raid, the people allegedly gathered outside the businessman’s house, claimed they were officers from the investigating agency and said they would conduct a search. The businessman alleged that they tried to gain entry without producing proper authorisation or establishing their detailed identities. However, his wife refused to open the main gate despite being pressured to do so and despite threats. They remained outside the house for nearly one-and-a-half hours, the businessman claimed. As neighbours gathered and asked them to produce a search warrant and authorisation, they reportedly said the documents were in their vehicle and left on the pretext of bringing them. However, they did not return. The family dialled the police helpline, following which a team of cops reached the spot.In the complaint, the businessman alleged that the visitors were wearing clothes bearing CBI insignia and carrying identity cards identifying them as officers of the investigating agency. He claimed that a notice purportedly carrying the name and signature of the CBI director was later sent to his father on WhatsApp. Though the message was later deleted, the family took a screenshot and submitted it to police along with the complaint, alleging that the document was fabricated.
