Fake call centre busted in Nirman Vihar, owner absconding

New Delhi: Delhi Police has busted an illegal call centre in east Delhi’s Nirman Vihar, where operators were allegedly impersonating bank officials and duping customers under the pretext of issuing credit cards.Police said the raid was conducted June 17 after receiving information about a fake call centre being run on the first floor of a building in the area.During the raid, officers found 10 women and eight men working inside the office. Investigators said 14 of them were actively making calls to potential victims using an illegal calling application while posing as bank officials.According to the cops, the callers used fake names and identities to lure people into applying for credit cards and collected their personal and financial details, which were allegedly shared with other associates for fraudulent activities.During questioning, one of the accused identified himself as the manager of the company, while another claimed to be its HR executive. Two women were found to be working as team leaders.However, when police asked for legal documents or any valid agreement authorising the company to operate on behalf of the bank, the accused failed to produce any.The owner of the call centre was not present during the raid and is currently absconding. Police seized 17 mobile phones from the premises and 18 people were questioned.
