Krishnanagar (Nadia): Former state minister Ujjal Biswas was arrested on Tuesday evening after police registered a case over allegations that tarpaulins meant for public distribution had been illegally stocked at his residence and were being diverted elsewhere. The arrest came hours after angry protesters stormed his Krishnanagar home, pelted him with eggs and demanded action.Police initially escorted Biswas to Kotwali police station. Later, acting on a complaint, officers registered a case under relevant sections of the BNS and arrested the former minister.Sources close to Biswas denied the allegations.They maintained that the tarpaulins were being returned to the relevant authorities and were not being misappropriated.
