Bathinda: A 56-year-old former councillor-cum-property dealer, Jagga Singh, died by suicide by allegedly hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his home in Barnala in the early hours of Monday. In a suicide note recovered by the police, Jagga Singh named two builders, accusing them of failing to pay his commission for the purchase of a colony. Barnala SSP Sarfaraz Alam said a case has been registered against Ashwani Kumar and Vinod Kumar, partners in Dhuri-based Cat Builders, under charges of abetment to suicide and common intention. Police are currently conducting raids to arrest the accused. However, Jagga Singh’s family announced they would not cremate the body until strict action was taken against those named in the note. According to the deceased’s brother, Malkit Singh, Ashwani Kumar and Vinod Kumar had approached Jagga expressing interest in purchasing a Barnala colony named Anil Enclave. Jagga successfully brokered the deal, and the sale deed was registered a long time ago. However, the builders repeatedly delayed paying his commission, Malkit alleged, adding this left Jagga depressed, driving him to end his life.
