Lucknow: Deoria police on Sunday arrested the accused in the murder of former block chief with the investigation indicating that the killing was carried out as an act of revenge over the victim’s alleged relationship with the accused’s wife.The accused was arrested by Bhitaha police and produced before a court, which remanded him to judicial custody.Bhitaha SHO Naresh Kumar said the accused made several important disclosures during interrogation regarding the circumstances and sequence of the murder. According to the police, the accused told investigators that he suspected his wife was in an illicit relationship with the former block head and had been deeply resentful towards him. He reportedly decided to kill Yadav as an act of revenge.Police said the accused and his wife lived at their temporary settlement where the couple were engaged in activities in the area. The former block chief also stayed in the same area, where he was involved in farming.According to the statement recorded during the investigation, the accused attacked the former block chief at his residence around 10 am on Tuesday. The accused first assaulted him with a stick, fracturing his hand, and subsequently strangled him. After the murder, Ravindra allegedly lifted the body onto his shoulder and carried it to a nearby drain where he dumped it, police said.The accused also told investigators that before carrying out the murder, he allegedly assaulted his wife and drove her away from the spot so that she would not be present during the killing or immediately learn about what had happened.
