Gurgaon: A 45-year-old Zomato delivery rider on duty died in a hit-and-run accident near Cyber Hub on Friday afternoon after an unidentified vehicle hit his motorcycle and fled. More than 24 hours later, police were still trying to trace the vehicle that left Janak Singh fatally injured on the road.Singh, who was from Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh, lived on rent in Kapashera, Delhi, and worked as a delivery rider in Gurgaon. He was riding from Shankar Chowk towards IFFCO Chowk when the collision occurred in front of Cyber Hub, police said. The accident is believed to have taken place between 12.30pm and 1.30pm.Around 2pm, Singh’s son Pushpendra received a call from a govt hospital informing him that his father was injured and admitted to the Sector 10 facility. Singh died during treatment, according to his son’s complaint.After being informed, a team from DLF Phase 2 police station reached the hospital. Singh’s body was kept in the mortuary, where Pushpendra submitted a complaint seeking action against the unknown driver.Police registered an FIR on Saturday under BNS sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (death by negligence), based on the complaint and the hospital’s medico-legal information.The cops are examining the circumstances leading to the crash and trying to identify the vehicle involved.“A team is checking CCTV footage from the spot and nearby areas to trace the vehicle that hit the biker,” a police officer said. The officer added that the autopsy had been conducted and the body handed over to the family for last rites.
