Lucknow: Patients with complex ENT injuries, including cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks through the nose or ear and trauma-related facial paralysis, can now access specialist treatment at SGPGI Apex Trauma Centre, with the institute starting a dedicated twice a week ENT OPD.Dr Mohammad Aqib, who would run the OPD, said that the ENT OPD will function every Monday and Wednesday.Among the more complex conditions to be managed through the new service are CSF leaks following injuries, in which the fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord can leak through the nose or ear, and facial nerve palsy caused by trauma. The service will also evaluate trauma-induced hearing loss following road accidents and other injuries, as well as neck injuries involving the ear, nose and throat.The OPD will cater to both common and complex ENT diseases and trauma-related conditions. Patients will also have access to endoscopic and surgical procedures for disorders of the nose, sinuses, ear and throat.The service is expected to be particularly useful for trauma patients who develop hearing problems, facial paralysis or CSF leaks following road accidents and other injuries, allowing them to receive ENT specialist evaluation at the trauma centre itself.Patients with ENT ailments or trauma-related injuries can avail themselves of specialist consultation at the Apex Trauma Centre ENT OPD every Monday and Wednesday.
