New Delhi: Eight people were rescued after a fire broke out in the parking area of a four-storey residential building in west Delhi’s Hari Nagar Tuesday morning.According to Delhi Fire Service (DFS), a call regarding the blaze was received at 3.48 am from Fateh Nagar area. Nine fire tenders, along with around 50 firefighters, were rushed to the spot.During the operation, firefighters safely evacuated all eight residents from the building. “ A woman, Sakshi (40), jumped from the first floor. Police arranged mattresses, due to which she landed safely,” said a senior police officer, adding that an elderly couple — including a woman who underwent hip replacement surgery just a few days earlier and was unable to move — were also rescued. Police said that the fire was likely caused by a short circuit.DFS officials said the fire gutted two cars and two scooters parked on the ground floor of the residential building, spread over 200 square yards. Two LPG cylinders kept on the top floor also caught fire and exploded, causing the blaze to intensify and spread rapidly.Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze by 6.35 am, preventing it from spreading to neighbouring properties. No injuries or casualties were reported.
