Mangaluru: Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) Dakshina Kannada district unit has threatened intense protests against “unscientific” revenue regulations in Mangaluru and alleged corruption at the Taluk Office and Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) office.District president Manoj Vamanjoor and secretary Rizwan Harekala said Mangaluru residents were being subjected to revenue policies different from those enforced in other Karnataka districts.“When compared to the revenue regulations in other districts across the state, there are rules that even legal experts do not understand here. These flawed regulations have become a major ordeal for common citizens. The revenue norms here have stripped away private property rights, specifically the freedom of individuals to convert a specific portion of their land for building a home or other structures, or to sell a parcel to tide over financial hardship,” stated Manoj Vamanjoor. He said Dakshina Kannada does not permit partial land conversion from a private plot, requiring the entire landholding to undergo conversion. Plan approval must subsequently be obtained for the entire site. If only a portion is selected, he said, a penalty must be paid for the remaining land.Vamanjoor also cited the rollback of the previously mandated Property Card, Khata complications, and the denial of land conversion and layout approvals for properties connected by footpaths or unpaved roads. He criticised district minister UT Khader, saying promises to simplify land conversion and layout approvals had not materialised.DYFI demanded immediate action, warning of protests over the regulations and alleged corruption.
