DSMNRU to award record 45 medals to students with disabilities

Lucknow: Dr Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University (DSMNRU) will, for the first time since its inception, award 45 medals to students with disabilities at its upcoming convocation, marking the highest tally ever achieved by the university’s special students.According to the final merit list released on Monday, 27 meritorious students with disabilities will receive gold, silver and bronze medals. The count has steadily risen in recent years, with 41 disabled students winning medals last year and 14 in 2024, while earlier years recorded fewer awardees.Overall, the university will confer 156 medals on 130 students, including 76 gold, 40 silver and 40 bronze medals. Vice-chancellor Prof Sanjay Singh described the achievement by students with disabilities as a major highlight of the convocation, saying 13 female students and 14 male students with disabilities together secured 45 medals. He said the performance demonstrated that academic talent can flourish when equal opportunities and resources are provided.“This reflects the university’s commitment to quality education, an inclusive environment and a strong academic culture. The outstanding performance of students with disabilities shows that talent knows no barriers when given the right support,” Singh said.University spokesperson Prof Yashwant Virodai said 57 students will share the 76 gold medals. Women will receive 41 gold medals and men 35. For silver, 36 students will receive 40 medals, with women getting 24 and men 16. For bronze, 37 students will receive 40 medals, with women getting 26 and men 14.In total, 77 women will receive 91 medals, while 53 men will get 65, reflecting strong academic performance by women students at DSMNRU.Apart from medals, the university will award 1,919 degrees at the convocation, including 955 to women and 964 to men, and will also confer 17 PhD degrees.
