New Delhi: A video surfaced online Thursday, showing a laboratory at the Rohini campus of Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University flooded with rainwater, its equipment drenched and an electrical panel remaining operational despite the leakage. The DSEU administration has temporarily suspended classes in the affected area and shifted practical sessions to another laboratory. The video, recorded by the Strength of Material (SOM) laboratory in-charge, shows water pouring through the ceiling and accumulating across the floor, raising concerns about the safety of students and staff as well as the condition of expensive laboratory equipment. “I am the Strength of Material lab’s in-charge and this is my office,” the official said in the video.“This is the condition of the lab when there is another floor above this. Water is leaking from the roof of the first floor and then reaching the ground floor. All the equipment, official records, chairs and tables — everything has been drenched in water. There is no place left where students can sit and attend classes,” he added. The lab in-charge also alleged that an electrical panel remained operational despite the seepage, warning that the situation could result in a short circuit or electrocution. He urged the DSEU administration to take immediate measures so that students’ studies are not disrupted and no untoward incident occurs.Following the complaint, the administration issued an order, shifting the SOM laboratory until Public Works Department (PWD) carries out the maintenance work.DSEU vice-chancellor Ashok Kumar Nagawat said the executive engineer would inspect the site and coordinate with PWD to undertake the repair work. “I have directed the campus director to take necessary steps for suspending classes in that area and work out shifting,” he told TOI.
