Gurgaon: After a relatively dry Sunday, rainfall activity is expected to increase over the city and other parts of Delhi-NCR and Haryana from the second half of Monday and continue into Tuesday, as the monsoon axis begins shifting northwards again.India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Haryana for Monday and Tuesday, forecasting heavy rain at isolated places, with another yellow alert for Thursday.According to IMD’s KVK automatic weather station, Gurgaon recorded a maximum temperature of 34.3 degrees Celsius on Sunday, up 3.4 degrees Celsius from Saturday. The minimum temperature also rose to 25.7 degrees Celsius from 24.5 degrees Celsius a day earlier.Rainfall readings also varied across the city. While the Gurgaon automatic weather station recorded no rain in the 24 hours ending 8.30am on Sunday, Gurgaon KVK recorded 6.5mm and NorthCap University recorded 19mm during the period.Rainfall was similarly uneven across Haryana. In the 24 hours ending 8.30am on Sunday, Bhiwani recorded 25mm, Bhiwani AWS 18mm, Hisar 17.2mm, Narnaul 16.5mm, Charkhi Dadri 11mm, Rohtak 9.8mm and Sirsa 8mm. While the IMD bulletin reported heavy rain at isolated places in Haryana, the individual figures above do not meet the IMD’s technical threshold for heavy rainfall, which begins at 64.5mm in 24 hours.Weather forecaster Navdeep Dahiya said the monsoon axis had shifted south on Sunday, resulting in mainly dry conditions over Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. Dahiya said isolated parts of the region could still receive brief spells of moderate rain on Sunday afternoon or evening, but widespread rainfall was not expected. He forecast a significant increase in rainfall over parts of Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Haryana during the second half of Monday and on Tuesday.The northward shift of the monsoon axis is expected to end the brief break in rainfall activity and bring back wetter conditions over the region. In Gurgaon, renewed showers could lead to waterlogging and traffic disruption, particularly in vulnerable areas.According to IMD, after the Monday-Tuesday spell, heavy rain is not forecast on Aug 12, while another spell of isolated heavy rain is possible on Aug 13. No heavy rain warning has been issued for Aug 14 and 15.
