Dibrugarh: A man was arrested, and drugs and an Italian-made pistol were seized from his possession in Tinsukia district.Acting on intelligence, Lekhapani police on Monday intercepted Natong Kamcha, a resident of Nampong in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district, on NH-315 at Jagun. He was travelling in a vehicle from Arunachal towards Assam, officials said.Police recovered a pistol, 15 live rounds, drugs packed in four soap cases and two mobile phones from the vehicle.Officials said Kamcha was earlier linked to a banned militant outfit. Police are questioning him to determine the weapon’s source and the consignment’s intended destination.“The recovery of a foreign-made pistol, along with drugs, points to a possible network operating across the Assam-Arunachal border. We are probing his past associations,” an officer said.In a separate operation, police recovered about 26 grams of drugs at Udaipur Chariali under Lekhapani police station.A team led by the Margherita co-district superintendent of police chased a white van coming from Jagun after receiving a tip-off. Its occupants allegedly threw a packet onto the road before fleeing. The packet contained drugs concealed in two soap cases.Police said they have obtained leads and launched a search for the suspects.
