Thane: The medical officer at the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation’s Rukminibai Hospital has been served a show-cause notice for allegedly providing incorrect information regarding dog bite cases on Sunday, civic officials informed on Wednesday. The facility actually attended to 58 dog bite patients on Sunday, but Dr. Sandeep Pagare, medical officer at the facility, apparently failed to verify it and claimed 130 people were bitten. As a result, the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation came under criticism from residents and activists who raised questions over the apparent apathy of the administration. The notice served by Chief Medical Officer Dr Deepa Shukla has asked the MO to respond within 24 hours, and in case he fails to reply, the administration would assume he has nothing to say and would proceed with appropriate disciplinary action.“The doctor possibly failed to get the correct information and released the information without confirming the actual position that caused visible panic among residents. The notice is likely to serve as a warning to other staff not to casually share sensitive information without confirming facts,” said a senior doctor refusing to be identified.
