Docs assn calls for waiting lists in medical recruitment

Hyderabad: The Healthcare Reforms Doctors Association (HRDA) has urged the state govt to introduce category-wise waiting lists for the ongoing recruitment of assistant professors in govt medical colleges and civil assistant surgeon specialists being conducted by the Medical and Health Services Recruitment Board (MHSRB).A delegation of HRDA members submitted a representation to health minister C Damodar Raja Narasimha, requesting relaxation of existing rules to facilitate the implementation of waiting lists in the current recruitment process. According to the association, the absence of waiting lists often results in vacancies remaining unfilled when selected candidates fail to attend counselling, decline appointments or do not join after selection. Such situations delay the filling of critical posts and place additional strain on already stretched healthcare institutions.Members pointed out that recruitment agencies in several states, including Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala, maintain category-wise waiting lists to address such contingencies. “The system allows authorities to quickly fill vacancies from a pool of eligible candidates, preventing seat wastage and ensuring continuity in public services. Adopting a similar mechanism in Telangana would improve the efficiency of the recruitment process, ensure better utilisation of qualified candidates and help address staff shortages in govt hospitals and medical colleges,” a member said.He added that the timely filling of vacancies is essential for strengthening healthcare delivery and ensuring uninterrupted patient care across the state’s public health system.
