Ex-Army jawan, Bihar man held over Pak espionage

Guwahati: Two persons, including a retired Army jawan working on contract, have been arrested in Assam for allegedly sharing sensitive security information with Pakistan.CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Sunday that Assam Police made the arrests based on inputs from central agencies.“As per the input of central agencies, Assam Police arrested two persons. One is a retired Army jawan, currently working in the Indian Army on a contractual job after his retirement. The other is a Bihar resident. It is suspected that they were in touch with Pakistan, and they were providing information to Pakistan about Army movements. So we have arrested them,” Sarma said.He said both accused would be handed over to a central agency. Sarma said the duo was honey-trapped, adding, “The case will develop further”.Assam Police Special Task Force arrested Bihar resident Abhishek Kr Singh (31) from a rented house in Guwahati for alleged espionage-related activities.Police said a preliminary investigation indicated his alleged involvement in passing sensitive security-force information to a Pakistani intelligence operative. Mobile phones, SIM cards and documents allegedly linked to the activities were recovered.The operation was conducted during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday in Gandhinagar under the Satgaon police station. Further investigation is under way.
