Chandigarh: Arman Singh, 19, showed no remorse over shooting his father, Chandigarh Police head constable Nitin Singh, dead, police said on Saturday. After initial interrogation, police said his father’s objection to his relationship and plans to marry his live-in partner may have prompted him to commit the crime.UT police on Saturday secured three days’ custody of Arman from a local court. Police had sought four days’ remand, but the court granted three days. Investigators will question him about the source of the country-made pistol and ammunition and whether anyone else was involved.Preliminary investigation has revealed that Arman allegedly procured the pistol and two bullets from Haridwar, Uttarakhand, police said. Investigators are also probing the possible role of his female live-in partner, with whom he had been staying at Khatauli village in Panchkula.Meanwhile, police handed over Nitin’s body to the family after an autopsy on Saturday. The family cremated him at his native village, Khatauli in Panchkula, with a large number of Chandigarh Police personnel attending the cremation.According to the FIR registered on the statement of Arman’s mother, ASI Monika Rani, Arman and Nitin had a heated argument on Thursday night over his plan to marry his live-in partner. Monika said she intervened and pacified them before asking them to sleep in the outer room, while she went to another room.Around 7am on Friday, Monika went to wake them but found the room locked from inside. After she repeatedly asked Arman to open the door, he allegedly opened it and grabbed her by the neck.According to her statement, Arman allegedly told her that she was obstructing his marriage, claimed that he had killed his father and threatened to kill her too. Monika escaped to the terrace and raised an alarm.Neighbours then broke open the outer door and entered the house, where they found Nitin dead on his bed. They overpowered Arman and handed him over to Sector 17 police.Police said the country-made pistol was recovered from the house. A murder case was registered against Arman and he was arrested.Monika is an ASI with Chandigarh Police, while Nitin was a head constable. Arman was the couple’s only child. Further investigation is underway.
