Dibrugarh: The district administration has partially eased restrictions on heavy vehicles within city limits amid flyover construction.An order issued Friday by district commissioner and District Road Safety Committee chairperson Bikram Kairi modifies the June 9 directive restricting heavy and medium vehicles to 9 pm-6 am.Light commercial goods vehicles may now operate in the city round the clock, easing transport problems for small traders and businesses. Heavy vehicles carrying essential goods may enter on Sundays, while the night-time restriction will remain on other working days.Heavy-loading vehicles operated by the Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation (DMC) have been exempted, enabling sanitation, waste collection and other municipal work without disruption.The revision follows representations from traders and transporters who reported mounting losses because of restrictions imposed to ease congestion caused by the simultaneous construction of the Mancotta Road and Amolapatty Junction flyovers.The order follows the relocation of the city’s main bus hub to the Murlidhar Jalan Bus Terminus on AT Road. The terminus began formal operations on June 22, ending years of underuse.The relocation was prompted by the Amolapatty flyover construction and concerns that the proposed service road could not accommodate heavy vehicles. Officials said the two measures were part of a phased strategy to keep city roads functional during flyover construction.“All other provisions of the original June 9 order, including the designated entry route via Chaulkhowa through the Dibrugarh Bypass and penal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for violations, remain in force,” a district official said.
