Dharech becomes HP’s first green panchayat with 500-KW solar plant

Shimla: Chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday inaugurated a 500-KW solar power plant at Dharech in Shimla district, making it Himachal Pradesh’s first green panchayat.Built at an estimated cost of Rs 1.94 crore, the project began in Jan 2025 and was successfully connected to the electricity grid on March 30 this year. The plant is currently generating around 3,000 units of clean energy daily, with an estimated annual production of nearly 8 lakh units.Under an agreement, the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL) will purchase electricity at Rs 3.50 per unit, ensuring an annual income of about Rs 28 lakh for the gram panchayat. The income generated will be distributed strategically: 30% for development works, 20% for the welfare of orphans and widows, 20% to the state govt, 10% to Himurja, and 20% for operation and maintenance. With an estimated lifespan of 25 years, the project is set to boost clean energy adoption, empower rural communities, and improve local livelihoods. MSID:: 130554312 413 |
