Kolkata: A 32-year-old man was arrested on Friday night for allegedly filming portions of Ajay Devgn-starrer ‘Drishyam 3’ on his mobile inside a multiplex off EM Bypass, police said.Despite Santanu Banerjee’s attempt at being discreet while recording the film on his cellphone, others in the theatre noticed his action and alerted the multiplex management, which in turn called the Phoolbagan Police Station. A police team reached the theatre and arrested Banerjee.During questioning, Banerjee admitted to recording the movie but claimed he had done so only to show it to friends and family members, police said. “He claimed he was a hardcore fan of Ajay Devgn and the ‘Drishyam’ franchise. He said he was filming the movie so that he could rewatch it later with friends and family. We are checking his version and his antecedents,” said police.Police are examining whether the accused had any intention of sharing or distributing the recording.Banerjee was produced before a Sealdah court on Saturday and remanded in police custody till Oct 8.Unauthorised recording of a film inside a cinema hall is prohibited under the Cinematograph Act as well as BNS. If proved guilty, a person can be jailed for up to three years and fined up to 5% of the film’s audited gross production cost.T
