Bengaluru: A 34-year-old cab driver allegedly hacked his mother, grandmother and brother-in-law to death at their residence in Kottigepalya, Kamakshipalya, Saturday morning before ending his life.C Prashant had been unemployed for the past year and was reportedly distressed over personal issues, police said. The deceased are Prashant’s mother C Mangalamma, 55, grandmother Nanjamma, 70, and brother-in-law Satish, a carpenter. Mangalamma worked at a garment factory, while Nanjamma was a civic worker at the city corporation.According to police, the incident occurred after Prashant’s father, Chikkanna, who works as a presser, left home for work around 6am. Neighbours, alerted by loud screams and commotion, rushed to the house and were shocked to find Prashant allegedly attacking his family members with a machete.“Satish and Nanjamma tried to escape from Prashant but could not. Neighbours saw him attacking the two near the main entrance. After the victims collapsed, Prashant attempted to leave the house and flee. Fearing that he might escape, the neighbours locked the main door from outside and alerted the police control room,” an investigating officer said.Police rushed to the spot and opened the door, where they found the bodies of the three victims in the hall and kitchen. Prashant was later found hanging in another room, police said.Chikkanna told police that he had no idea what triggered the killings. “Prashant used to drive a cab but had been unemployed for the past year. He would often quarrel with his mother over minor issues, but had never shown such extreme anger. He was distressed about being jobless, but his health was otherwise fine. Now, I feel that if I had been at home, he might have attacked me too,” Chikkanna told police.Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the killings and are gathering information from family members and neighbours to determine the exact motive behind the incident.
