Delhi’s Jaffarpur Kalan case: Teen accused in 2 murders to be tried as adult

NEW DELHI: The Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) has ordered to try a 16-year-old boy, allegedly involved in two murder cases, as an adult after assessing the nature of the offences, a second such order in Delhi in recent months.On Sept 23, 2024, the juvenile, then 15, allegedly stabbed to death a 16-yearold boy in east Delhi’s Shakarpur for refusing to give him a treat for a newly bought mobile phone. Police apprehended three boys, including the 15-year-old.Minor surrendered before JJB on Dec 8While out on bail, on Dec 7 last year, the boy allegedly stabbed a 22year-old man at Shakarpur market, who met him to mediate after the boy assaulted a youth near Akshardham metro station the previous day.The victim, before he died at a hospital, identified the juvenile as his attacker. The boy surrendered before JJB on Dec 8. Police collected CCTV footage, call detail records, WhatsApp chats, voice recordings and Google Maps location data to establish the sequence of events. They also recovered the knife allegedly used in the stabbing and the clothes the boy was wearing at the time of the attack.DCP (east) Rajeev Kumar confirmed that the juvenile would face trial as an adult. The application seeking to try him as an adult was moved by inspector Manoj Mudgal, the investigating officer in the second murder case.This is the second such order in Delhi in recent months. Another 16-year-old accused of murdering a man during a robbery in southwest Delhi’s Jaffarpur Kalan was also directed by JJB in April to face trial as an adult. Police claimed that the juvenile and two associates had killed the man and later set his body on fire to destroy evidence.
