New Delhi: Delhi Traffic Police conducted a week-long special enforcement drive across the city to curb dangerous traffic violations, strengthen road discipline and ensure smoother movement. The drive focused on wrong-side driving, riding without helmets and triple riding, besides targeted action against e-rickshaws at congestion-prone locations.During the drive, 7,675 challans were issued for wrong-side driving, 22,992 for riding without helmets and 1,568 for triple riding. So far this year, 2,676 FIRs have been registered under appropriate legal provisions in cases involving blatant wrong-side driving violations.Focused enforcement was also carried out against e-rickshaws following concerns over haphazard driving, wrong-side movement, abrupt stoppages and unsafe manoeuvring, particularly at congested stretches. A total of 7,298 challans were issued during the drive, while 63 e-rickshaws were impounded for violations warranting such action.Delhi Traffic Police has warned that repeated, deliberate or serious violations will invite stringent legal action. The enforcement drives will continue, particularly at congested and high-traffic locations.
