New Delhi: Tighter border surveillance, intelligence sharing, curbing the supply of illegal arms and narcotics, monitoring social media for potential threats, and strengthening action against organised crime were among the key issues discussed at an interstate coordination meeting convened by Delhi Police Wednesday ahead of the Independence Day celebrations.The meeting, chaired by Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar, was attended by senior police officers from 10 states and union territories, along with officials from central intelligence and enforcement agencies.Senior officers exchanged intelligence inputs and reviewed anti-terror measures, including enhanced border checks, verification of suspicious individuals, and other preventive steps. They also discussed issues related to paragliders, drones and other flying objects, while stressing the need for timely intelligence sharing on suspicious persons and vehicles.The commissioner emphasised the importance of ground-level coordination in border areas, continuous social media monitoring, and swift action on intelligence inputs relating to potential threats. He also called for sustained action against criminal gangs operating in the region, particularly those being run from abroad. Special emphasis was laid on tackling emerging trends in drug trafficking and the illegal supply of arms.He emphasised the need for a joint strategy against organised crime and seamless coordination among all law enforcement agencies to ensure foolproof security arrangements for the celebrations.Special CP (Crime) HGS Dhaliwal said the meeting also focused on interstate gangs operating in the National Capital Region and the illegal supply of firearms and narcotics. Traffic restrictions during the celebrations and measures to prevent unauthorised intrusion at interstate borders were also reviewed.“Officers from the participating states and union territories were urged to maintain close coordination and extend full cooperation for the effective implementation of the security plan,” he said.
