Gorakhpur: Attacking the previous Samajwadi Party govt of patronising criminals, promoting lawlessness and turning Uttar Pradesh into a hub of crime, chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday said that when the party was in power, the slogan ‘dekh Sapai, bitiya ghabrai’ was common.“What moral values are the Congress and Samajwadi Party leaders talking about? When the SP was in power, the slogan ‘Dekho Sapai, Bitia Ghabraai’ was common. Every girl was scared of going to school, and traders were afraid to run their businesses. Before every festival, disturbances would begin, and curfews and riots became common.”He said the BJP govt, in contrast, had given 10 lakh govt jobs to youths in the past 10 years while transforming the state’s law and order situation. ““Samajwadi Party means inviting criminals, while Bharatiya Janata Party means becoming the harbinger of change,” the CM said, while addressing a public meeting in Chauri Chaura after inaugurating development projects.Yogi alleged that the SP govt had encouraged criminals, land grabbing and extortion, forcing women to fear for their safety and traders to conduct business under constant threat.Alleging that the SP had promoted a culture of crime, Yogi claimed that during its four terms in power, the state witnessed 1500 riots and the party had created a ‘one district, one mafia’ system. He also alleged that around 10 lakh criminals were patronised, spreading fear and lawlessness across districts.Highlighting the BJP govt’s achievements, he said it had introduced initiatives such as ‘one district, one medical college’, ‘one district, one product’ and ‘one district, one cuisine’. The government had also dismantled mafia networks, he said.Yogi said criminals could no longer dare to encroach upon poor people’s land or threaten women’s safety, adding that development and improved security had changed the state’s image. The chief minister said that before 2017, poor sanitation, waterlogging and contaminated drinking water had contributed to the spread of encephalitis, malaria, dengue and other waterborne diseases, claiming that thousands of children fell ill and died prematurely. The govt has also ensured that houses which had existed along the drain for a long time were not damaged during the removal of illegal encroachments, he said.“This is not merely the completion of a project. We have also completed the first project to eliminate mosquitoes and mafia from Gorakhpur,” Yogi addedThe chief minister said a city free from mosquitoes and mafia could progress rapidly. He cited improved four-lane road connectivity, the fertiliser plant, AIIMS, BRD Medical College and four universities as examples of Gorakhpur’s development..BoxCM targets Nehru over ‘failure’ to defend Chauri Chaura revolutionariesGorakhpur: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday targeted the country’s first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru over his alleged failure to defend the revolutionaries sentenced to death by the British in the Chauri Chaura case, claiming that Madan Mohan Malaviya’s legal intervention saved 151 of them from the gallows.Addressing a programme organised to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones of development projects worth Rs 288 crore in the Chauri Chaura assembly constituency, the CM said the British sentenced 172 people, including farmers, labourers and traders, to death following the Feb 4, 1922 violence, where protestors set fire to a local police station, resulting in the deaths of several cops.“Congress leaders make a lot of noise about Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru being a great lawyer, but the truth is that after the Chauri Chaura incident, he did not come forward to defend the 172 people sentenced to death by the British,” the chief minister claimed. He highlighted that Malaviya took on the case of the revolutionaries and, through his compelling legal arguments, saved 151 of them from the gallows.Yogi noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi honoured Malaviya with the Bharat Ratna in recognition of his contributions and respect for the revolutionaries.Describing the sacrifice of the Chauri Chaura martyrs as an important chapter in India’s freedom struggle, he emphasised the responsibility of everyone to honour their memory.
