Noida: A decomposed body of an unidentified man was recovered from a drain in Sector 55 on Wednesday morning, with police suspecting that he may have died around a fortnight ago.Sanitation workers cleaning the drain outside the exit of a residential society spotted the body around 8am after removing an iron cover. The workers alerted the society’s security guard, who informed police through the emergency helpline 112.The man was wearing a T-shirt and lower. His body was in an advanced stage of decomposition, making it difficult for police to ascertain his age or identity. The drain is more than 10 feet deep, and officers said there was no open area around the spot where the body could have remained exposed.A security guard claimed the body was found wrapped in a polythene bag. Police, however, denied this, saying it was lodged beneath dirt and covered with debris. A large polythene sheet was found near the spot and is being examined as part of the probe.Police are also investigating whether the body could have been swept into the drain from the Khoda side. The body was sent for post-mortem to establish the cause of death and the deceased’s identity.Police stations in Noida and neighbouring districts have been alerted to check missing-person records. CCTV footage from the area is also being examined to determine how the body reached the drain.“The case will be registered after receiving the autopsy report. Further investigation is underway,” an officer said.
