Day after seeking Hawara’s parole, SAD (Punar Surjit) meets his family

Patiala: A day after SAD (Punar Surjit) sought Punjab governor Gulab Chand Kataria’s intervention for parole for Jagtar Singh Hawara, the party’s youth wing on Tuesday stepped up the campaign by visiting Hawara village and urging Punjab govt to allow the jailed convict to meet his ailing mother.Even as the party made the appeal to Punjab govt, the matter has to be decided by the Chandigarh administration and the superintendent of Mandoli jail, Delhi.SAD (Punar Surjit) young wing president Gurjeet Singh Talwandi met Hawara’s family and said the issue went beyond legal considerations and called for a humanitarian approach. “Keeping in view the advanced age and health of Hawara’s mother, she should be allowed to meet her son. The Constitution and the law must be equal for everyone. No person can be kept in prison forever,” he said.Talwandi urged the govt to consider Hawara’s parole within the framework of the law and appealed to the Sikh community to pray for the well-being of Hawara and his family.Party workers also recited the Mool Mantar with members of the sangat during the visit. On Monday, a delegation of SAD (Punar Surjit) submitted a memorandum to governor Kataria seeking his intervention for Hawara’s parole, commutation of Balwant Singh Rajoana’s death sentence, early SGPC elections and other pending Sikh issues.
