Bengaluru: What began as a promising connection on a dating app ended in betrayal for a 28-year-old private firm employee, who alleged her private moments were uploaded to adult websites after a man she met online suddenly went incommunicado.The accused, whom she trusted after months of interaction, allegedly blocked all communication when the intimate videos surfaced on multiple online platforms, prompting a police complaint.Amrita (name changed), a resident of Vidyaranyapura and from Odisha, created a profile on Bumble app, where she came into contact with a man identifying himself as Anubhaav in Nov 2022.After several conversations on the platform, she obtained his Instagram account, verified the profile and believed both the account and the person were genuine. A few days later, she decided to meet him.Amrita alleged that Anubhaav invited her to meet him at a room near Sony Signal in Koramangala, claiming he was unable to meet elsewhere due to work commitments. Trusting him, she agreed to meet him in the location he specified. He offered her alcohol in the room and the two engaged in intimate moments.However, shortly afterwards, he stopped communicating with her and blocked her on Instagram too. The matter took a disturbing turn when Amrita recently found videos of her private moments with him being circulated on online platform Reddit. She also learned that the same video was being circulated on other social media and adult-content websites. She suspects the videos were uploaded by Anubhaav without her knowledge or consent.On June 19, she approached south-east cybercrime police seeking action against the accused. A senior officer said the videos, uploaded earlier this month, were deleted from the platforms and efforts are on to nab the accused.Better Safe Than Sorry1. Always meet first-time contacts in public places and inform friends or family about your whereabouts3. Avoid consuming food or drinks offered by someone you have just met4. Never allow intimate photos or videos to be recorded, and remain alert to hidden cameras or recording devices5. If intimate content is leaked online, immediately alert the platform, preserve evidence and contact police
