Chandigarh: An unidentified cyclist was killed after being hit by a speeding motorcycle near the Sundar Nagar traffic lights in Manimajra on the night of July 15. The motorcyclist fled the scene after the accident, and police have registered a case against an unknown person under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).According to police, the victim, believed to be around 45 years old, had not been identified at the time of filing the report. The accident occurred around 8.30 pm near the Sundar Nagar light point.Arun Kumar, a resident of Sector 21-A, who witnessed the incident, told police that he was returning from Daria when he heard a loud noise after crossing the traffic lights. On turning back, he saw a motorcycle had struck a cyclist. Before he could reach the spot, the rider fled, leaving the injured man lying unconscious on the road.Passers-by shifted the victim to the roadside and alerted the Dial 112 emergency service. A police vehicle that reached the spot rushed the injured man to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.Police personnel from Manimajra police station reached the scene and conducted an inspection. A forensic team documented the spot, collected evidence and seized blood samples and the damaged bicycle for examination.The body has been kept in the mortuary at GMCH-32 pending identification. Police said efforts are underway to establish the identity of the deceased by circulating his details and checking missing persons records.Investigators are also examining CCTV footage from cameras installed near the accident site to identify the absconding motorcyclist.
