Customs officials, trade stakeholders discuss border trade bottlenecks in Mizoram
The meeting focused on trade facilitation in the northeast

Aizawl: The second meeting of Inland Container Depot and Land Customs Station (ICD/LCS) Feedback Sharing Committee, organised under the aegis of the office of principal chief commissioner of customs, Kolkata customs zone, was held at the state guest house in Aizawl on Friday to review the implementation of procedural reforms announced in Union Budget 2026-27.The meeting focused on trade facilitation in the northeast, including ICD and LCS operations, trade-clearance timelines, digital connectivity and bottlenecks in border infrastructure.Following the review, senior officials held an interactive session with trade stakeholders and officers from customs preventive commissionerate, Shillong, to discuss practical constraints and seek suggestions for streamlining documentation and improving border systems.Mizoram shares a 404-km international border with Myanmar and a 318-km border with Bangladesh. Formal border trade with the two countries has remained limited, while trade along the Myanmar border has largely remained unregulated.This is despite the inauguration of Land Customs Station at Zokhawthar on the India-Myanmar border by Nirmala Sitharaman, then Union minister of state (independent charge) for commerce and industry, on March 25, 2015. The station is located in Champhai district.Border trade with Myanmar and Bangladesh has remained limited amid political turmoil in the neighbouring countries.The meeting was attended by Shrawan Kumar, principal chief commissioner and chairperson; Vinayak Azaad, Principal Commissioner (Preventive, West Bengal); Gautam Kumar, additional commissioner; and Parampreet Rai, joint commissioner.
