Dibrugarh: The anti-rabies campaign in Dibrugarh has vaccinated 1,485 stray dogs, including 90 at Assam Medical College and Hospital.A sustained anti-rabies vaccination campaign launched in Dibrugarh on Aug 14, 2025, has vaccinated 1,485 stray dogs across the city and at institutional premises. On Monday, 20 community dogs were vaccinated at Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) campus.The latest drive was conducted by Animal Welfare People (AWP) in collaboration with Dibrugarh veterinary department. The dogs were vaccinated at several locations on the campus, including the departments of orthopaedics, ENT, medicine, casualty and surgery, as well as the administrative block, blood bank area and super speciality block.The exercise followed the vaccination of 70 dogs at AMCH between Sept 5 and 13. With Monday’s 20 vaccinations, 90 dogs have been covered at the hospital during the latest phase of the campaign.The overall figure comprises 1,395 dogs vaccinated up to Sept 4, 70 between Sept 5 and 13, and 20 on Sept 14.The programme has been carried out jointly by AWP, Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation (DMC) and Dibrugarh veterinary department. According to available records, the earlier 1,395 vaccinations included 70 dogs at Dibrugarh University, 40 at Dibrugarh Airport, 15 at ICMR, 300 vaccinated by AWP during adoption camps and treatment and rescue activities, and 970 in Dibrugarh town and market areas.A veterinary department official said sustained vaccination of community dogs was important from both public health and animal welfare perspectives.“Vaccination is an important tool for preventing rabies. We are trying to vaccinate community dogs in different parts of Dibrugarh through regular, coordinated drives. Continued vaccination, along with responsible care and monitoring, can help reduce the risk of rabies,” the official said.
