CPM Seeks HC judge-led probe Into ex-DGP death in Tripura

Agartala: Tripura CPM has expressed dissatisfaction with the Special Investigation Team formed by the state govt to probe the death of former DGP Anurag Dhankar. On Monday, leader of opposition Jitendra Chaudhury and eight CPM MLAs met governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu and submitted a memorandum, citing doubts raised by Dhankar’s family and some officials about the circumstances of the death.Chaudhury said assigning the probe to West Tripura SP Namit Pathak undermined perceived impartiality and argued that a case involving a top police officer needed an independent investigation under a sitting Tripura High Court judge to ensure transparency and credibility. The governor heard their concerns and said the matter would be looked into, but CPM said it remained dissatisfied with an inquiry led by internal police.Former chief minister Manik Sarkar and senior CPM netas also met the governor with a separate memorandum, called Dhankar honest and urged immediate high court involvement to address public scepticism.
