Durgapur: Police had to resort to lathi-charge and tear gas shelling in Durgapur as a mob attacked a former Trinamool councillor’s house and vandalised it on Sunday night.Former ward 39 councillor Shashank Shekhar Mondal, away from his home since the May 4 assembly poll result day, returned to his home around 9:30 pm on Sunday. This was when a group of men confronted him.Following the dispersion of the protesters, cops rescued Mondal and took him to the police station for his safety. Police stated no formal complaint has been lodged and no arrests have been made.
