Jaipur: City police have received 100 drug-related complaints and tip-offs after launching a dedicated WhatsApp helpline and installing complaint boxes at hostels, paying guest (PG) accommodations and coaching institutes as part of an anti-narcotics campaign.Police said the information received through the helpline and complaint boxes is being verified and acted upon to identify drug peddlers and dismantle local supply networks, particularly in areas with a large student population.DCP (South) Rajarshi Raj Varma said the police launched the WhatsApp helpline (9530424984) to encourage residents to report drug-related activities while ensuring complete confidentiality of informants.“So far, we have received around 100 complaints under the campaign and registered 20 FIRs based on the information received,” Varma said.He added that complaint boxes have been installed at hostels, PG accommodations and coaching centres to enable students to anonymously share information about suspected drug peddling or substance abuse.“The complaint boxes are checked regularly and every piece of information is verified before action is taken,” he said.According to Varma, police teams are also conducting awareness drives across different wards to encourage public participation in the fight against narcotics. Officers are interacting with residents, students and local stakeholders to sensitise them about the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of reporting suspicious activities.“While police are taking strict action against drug peddlers, they often target localities with a large youth population. That is why we are reaching out to people and urging them to report anyone involved in the drug trade. The identity of every informant will be kept confidential,” Varma said.Police said public cooperation has become a key component of the campaign. “We are also organizing camps in all wards and speaking with local residents, telling them not to be scared of anyone and report suspicious drug activities,” he said.
