Hyderabad: A suspected attempt to steal copper wire from a transformer at an abandoned factory in Sangareddy district ended in tragedy, with two men losing their lives — one due to electrocution and the other after a fatal fall while allegedly trying to flee the scene.One of the deceased was Mohammed Osman (27), a refugee living with his family in Shaheen Nagar. Police said Osman, a mason, had migrated to Hyderabad with his family in 2016 and had been residing in the city since then.During the investigation, police seized a large iron-cutter and an iron chipping rod from near the damaged transformer.According to police, Osman, along with his associates Jubair and Mursheed Alam, entered the premises of the defunct Feno Plast Company at Nandigama village under BDL Bhanoor police station limits on the intervening night of July 19 and 20. The trio allegedly scaled the 9-ft compound wall and approached a transformer with the intention of stealing copper wire.While attempting to cut the transformer supply line, Osman suffered a severe electric shock and collapsed with extensive burn injuries.Shocked by the incident, Jubair, who was standing on the compound wall, tried to escape by jumping out of the premises. “He fell outside in the bushes and suffered a head injury. Jubair died on the spot,” BDL Bhanoor sub-inspector A Srinivas Reddy said.Mursheed allegedly shifted Osman to his residence in Shaheen Nagar, following which family members admitted him to Osmania general hospital at around 8.30 am on July 20.“While undergoing treatment at OGH, Osman succumbed to burns on July 22 afternoon,” BDL Bhanoor inspector Ch Vijay Krishna said. Mursheed is doing fine, police said.Based on a complaint lodged by Feno Plast security guard B Kistaiah, police registered a case under section 194 (suspicious death) of the BNSS on July 20.
