New Delhi: A 19-year-old student has been apprehended for hitting a Delhi Police constable with her sedan and critically injuring him while he was on duty in northwest Delhi’s Ashok Vihar. Police said the woman hit the constable’s motorcycle, ran over his legs and stopped only after the bike and the police officer got stuck beneath her car. Police said the woman was also found to be driving without a valid licence.The incident took place around 8pm on June 19 near a bank on KC Goyal Marg. Constable Jitender Kumar, posted at Ashok Vihar police station, was returning to the police station on a govt motorcycle after preserving a body at the mortuary of Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital.According to the FIR, a silver sedan car allegedly driven by the woman approached from behind and suddenly swerved left, colliding with the motorcycle. The impact threw the constable and his motorcycle onto the road.The FIR states that she did not stop after the collision and instead ran over both his legs. The vehicle came to a halt only after the motorcycle became trapped underneath it. Passersby rushed to the spot and pulled the injured policeman out from beneath the car.Police personnel from Ashok Vihar police station reached the spot and shifted the constable to a hospital.Cops found both the damaged govt motorcycle and the car at the scene. The woman present near the vehicle was apprehended.During the investigation, police found that she did not possess a valid driving licence. Based on the constable’s statement and findings at the scene, an FIR was registered under Sections 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 125(act endangering life or personal safety of others) of BNS, along with Section 3/181 of the Motor Vehicles Act for driving without a licence.Police said further investigation is under way to ascertain all circumstances surrounding the accident.
