Congress staging drama in delimitation issue: Dayanidhi Maran

CHENNAI: DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran on Monday accused the Congress of staging drama in the delimitation issue. Referring to the remarks of Telangana chief minister Revanth Reddy that delimitation would shape Telangana with increased representation, Dayanidhi on X questioned the silence of Congress in states that the party rules. “Why is the Congress staging a ‘no delimitation’ drama only in Tamil Nadu? Having deployed its proxy govt here to convene an MPs’ meeting, why has it remained silent in the four states it governs? And will it question Revanth Reddy, who has openly supported the delimitation exercise?” Maran asked. The TVK govt headed by chief minister C Joseph Vijay convened a meeting of Tamil Nadu MPs in Chennai on Saturday to discuss the delimitation issue. However, DMK boycotted the meeting calling it a “diversion” from Mekedatu issue. While the Congress attacked DMK for not participating in the meeting, DMK hit back at Congress. “After instigating the TVK govt and staging an MPs meeting in Tamil Nadu as a political spectacle against delimitation, what exactly is the Congress party’s position on the issue? Has Congress party shifted from advocating fair delimitation to demanding no delimitation only in Tamil Nadu, or is that now its position across the country?” Maran asked. The DMK MP asked if no delimitation was the stand of Congress, why didn’t the party convene a similar meeting of MPs in the four states that Congress governs.“A party that cannot articulate a clear and consistent position on delimitation has no moral authority to preach to Tamil Nadu. What the Congress is indulging in here is nothing more than petty politics. The people of TN will not be taken in by the theatrics of a reels-driven party that functions as the Congress party’s proxy govt,” Maran said.
