NEW DELHI: The Congress on Tuesday offered legal assistance to students and young people who were arrested, detained or allegedly assaulted during the ongoing protests over the paper leak issue.The party shared a Google form link for those seeking legal aid, with Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh saying that the AICC had directed its legal team to extend all possible support to the affected protesters.Ramesh urged those requiring legal assistance in connection with the protests to fill out the form so that Congress representatives could contact them.The move comes a day after violence and vandalism were reported during the CJP’s ‘Chalo Sansad’ march on July 20, following which Delhi Police registered four FIRs and began the process of filing two more cases.The FIRs, registered at Parliament Street, Connaught Place and other police stations, invoke various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Arms Act and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, sources said.Security has since been tightened across the national capital.According to Delhi Police, more than 118 police personnel and around 60 protesters were injured in Monday’s clashes, while over 20 police vehicles were damaged.Security arrangements have been stepped up across the national capital following Monday’s clashes, in which Delhi Police said more than 118 police personnel and around 60 protesters were injured, and over 20 police vehicles damaged.(With PTI inputs)
