Congress holds ‘sugar langar’ to protest rising prices
Congress functionaries alleged that govt policies have squeezed household budgets, forcing ordinary citizens to bear the brunt of economic challenges.

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Pradesh Congress Committee organised a “sugar langar” at Congress Bhawan in Sector 35 on Wednesday to protest the rising prices of essential food items under the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central govt.A large crowd gathered to collect free sugar packets, leading to a shortage that left several attendees empty-handed. Party functionaries pointed out that sugar prices have surged from ₹45 per kg to between ₹70 and ₹75 per kg, while prices of pulses, edible oils, and other kitchen staples have similarly escalated.Congress functionaries alleged that govt policies have squeezed household budgets, forcing ordinary citizens to bear the brunt of economic challenges. Party workers pledged to intensify agitation against inflation in the coming days unless immediate measures are taken to curb retail prices.“Every essential item used in the kitchen has become expensive, but the government is turning a blind eye to the problems of the people,” said HS Lucky, president of the Chandigarh Pradesh Congress Committee.
