Gurgaon: GMDA has decided to redevelop a portion of Rao Gajraj Singh Marg, with a focus on fixing recurring waterlogging on the road. The identified portion near Old Delhi-Gurgaon Road will be reconstructed in concrete to prevent the road surface from repeatedly getting damaged due to water accumulation.The metropolitan authority is also planning a drainage network that will carry water that collects on the stretch to the Leg-1 drain.According to GMDA, the road is at a lower level than Old Delhi-Gurgaon Road, which causes rainwater to accumulate on the stretch and subsequently damages the road surface.GMDA CEO PC Meena on Thursday directed officials to find a permanent solution to the problem instead of carrying out temporary repairs. Officials have been asked to take up the roughly 200-metre stretch that frequently gets waterlogged and construct it into an RCC drain.This road caters to thousands of office-goers travelling to Udyog Vihar. Last year, GMDA resurfaced it but the recent rains have already eroded the bitumen surface.“We will soon undertake the repair of the stretch. We are planning to reconstruct it in concrete to prevent recurring damage. Meanwhile, a comprehensive redevelopment plan of this entire stretch connecting NH-8 will be prepared as the parallel roads are already being developed,” a GMDA official said.The CEO also directed officials to hold a meeting with metro authorities to review the proposed alignment in sectors 22 and 23. He said the alignment should be examined with the aim of saving as many trees as possible.Officials informed him that around 40 metres of the road had earlier been damaged due to leakage from a drinking water pipeline. The damaged portion has since been repaired.For the road connecting Krishna Chowk and Rezangla Chowk, Meena reviewed the ongoing construction of a stormwater drain, which is being developed after lowering the green belts on both sides of the road. He directed officials to maintain the quality of the drainage work and repair the service lane. To improve pedestrian movement, he also directed officials to provide openings in divider grills at suitable locations and mark zebra crossings.
