New Delhi: With a focus on basic civic amenities for devotees and coordination among organisers, chief minister Rekha Gupta has directed all district magistrates to complete preparations for the Kanwar Yatra before it begins. Directions include making adequate arrangements for drinking water, sanitation, medical facilities, electricity and smooth traffic movement. She also reviewed the capital’s monsoon preparedness.In addition, while chairing a meeting of the DDC Apex Committee at the Secretariat, Gupta directed officials to organise special camps under the PM UDAY scheme across unauthorised colonies so that residents can complete their registration before the Oct 31 deadline. The review meeting also covered the establishment of mini secretariats in every district, progress of rainwater harvesting projects, weekly public grievance hearings at district magistrate offices, cleanliness drives around public places and govt office complexes, and the development of cooling zones.Gupta said the govt was committed to ensuring effective implementation of its initiatives through continuous field monitoring and coordination among departments, adding that officials would be held accountable for monsoon management and Kanwar Yatra arrangements.Coinciding with the Hindu month of Sawan, Kanwar Yatra 2026 will begin on Jul 30. The pilgrimage will culminate with Sawan Shivratri and Jalabhishek (water offerings to Lord Shiva) on Aug 11.
